The cat - change in perspective

An evening, there lay outside a cat,
purring mildly on our doormat.
It was mostly white with some black and orange,
suddenly whining here today, was strange.

We can't understand her cat language,
but probably was wanting to take advantage.
She kept peering inside longingly,
and I assumed it was for food wantingly.

But the building watchman told us her story,
that a few days ago she had delivered a baby,
which was taken away by a resident,
without the mom having it evidenced.

The cat was going from door to door,
and even heading up to a higher floor.
At each door, it was the same ritual, sitting out,
and giving periodically a soft shout.

Even though the sound was same an hour back,
we reacted differently knowing her flashback.
None of her words we could still understand,
but now in the cries we could feel her pained.

Someone would hear her squeal,
and give her a little meal,
or pamper her with a small rub,
hoping she will forget the cub.

Cats they say do separate from their kid,
hopefully she too is no longer torrid.
The next time you hear an animal make a cry,
pause a moment to see if you can feel its why.
